Lip Fillers

7 Things to Know About Lip Fillers

Lip fillers for more defined, fuller lips at Medical Cosmetics

If you dream of fuller lips, lip fillers or lip enhancement can give you the plumper pout you’ve
always wanted – all done in the comfort and privacy of our state-of-the-art Nottingham clinic.
Lip fillers are a popular form of facial injectable which work to add greater volume and a more defined shape to the lip area. While lip injections are commonly associated with creating a fuller pout, this beauty treatment can actually be used for many purposes:

Definition: Lip enhancement treatments can be used to define the lips, creating a more
prominent cupid’s bow without the need for lipsticks or lip liner pencils.

Enlargement: Lip fillers can increase the size of the lips, making them a bolder and
more pronounced facial feature, ideal for anyone with very thin lips.

Reshaping: With lip augmentation, it is possible to reshape the lip and mouth area,
turning the corners of the mouth upwards to minimise natural drooping.

Rejuvenation: Lip fillers are a very common anti-aging treatment, adding youthful
volume to lips that have lost their natural plumpness over time.

Smoothing: Lip injections aren’t just for the lips. They can also be used to treat the
surrounding area and are regularly used to smooth fine lines around the mouth.

What are lip fillers?
Lip enhancement treatments use hyaluronic acid lip injections, which are injected directly into
the lip area. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance which is found within the cells of the body, but which can diminish over time leaving the lips looking flat and deflated.

Medical Cosmetics lip fillers use a gel form of hyaluronic which mimics the effect of the body’s own stores, creating a boost which enhances the natural appearance of the lip.

Lip enhancement at Medical Cosmetics
At Medical Cosmetics, all lip fillers are administered by our qualified aesthetic team, with
extensive experience in all aspects of lip augmentation. Following a detailed consultation, a
topical anaesthetic cream is used to numb the area before a short, thin needle is inserted into the most suitable part of the lip depending on individual shaping.

Procedures are quick, typically taking only 10 – 15 minutes, although some treatments may take longer as our team takes the time to ensure optimal results. We use two different types of world renowned lip fillers at Medical Cosmetics, and we’ll discuss the best option for you during your initial consultation at our Nottingham clinic:

Restylane: This is a non-animal form of hyaluronic acid which offers subtle, natural lip
augmentation. It is commonly used in anti-aging lip enhancement treatments.

Juvederm: This is a leading hyaluronic facial filler which binds to your skin’s own
moisture and integrates with your own facial tissue to add volume to the lips.
All lip fillers used at Medical Cosmetics contain lidocaine, a mild anaesthetic, which helps to
minimise discomfort both during and after the treatment is carried out.

Lip enhancement aftercare
While it is common to experience a small amount of redness and swelling after having lip fillers, one of the best things about lip injections is that there is no real downtime associated with the treatment. Mild side effects should subside within a few hours, and you can then continue with everyday tasks and activities as normal. However, for best results it is advised to avoid irritating the lip area (eg. refrain from wearing lipstick, drinking alcohol, or sweating excessively) for the first 24 hours following treatment to give your lips chance to settle. Your Medical Cosmetics aesthetic doctor will discuss aftercare with you in full during your pre-treatment consultation.
Are lip fillers safe?
Yes. As a non-invasive beauty treatment, lip fillers are a very safe treatment when carried out by a trained practitioner, and when using high quality injectable products.
How soon can I see results?
With Restylane, Juvederm and Teoxane, the results of lip enhancement treatments can be seen almost instantaneously. Immediate results may be masked by slight redness of the area.
How long do lip fillers last?
Lip augmentation varies from person to person. With lip injections such as Restylane and Juverderm, it is expected that results will last anywhere from 6 months to one year.
