Summer Ready Skin Starts Now!
Summer is closer than you may think, which means there’s never been a better time to start adopting some healthy habits to ensure your skin is ready to show off. Here’s your simple summer skincare ‘to do’ list that will help you to prepare, protect, and pamper your skin, and get ready to flaunt that summer glow:
- Ditch the Salty Snacks
While the link between diet and skincare is often debated, it can’t be denied that there are certain foods that definitely won’t do your skin any good. High amounts of salt, for example, dehydrate the body and can result in dry, peeling skin. Similarly, eating too much sugar causes rapid rises of insulin in the body, which stimulates the oil glands and makes you produce more sebum than you really need, leaving you feeling greasy. Ditch the crisps and sweets, and start snacking on healthier natural alternatives.
- Eat the Good Stuff
When it comes to eating healthy, there are plenty of great options. However, in terms of starting a good skincare diet to give you a natural boost, some foods may be better than others. Foods high in Vitamin C, like oranges, could help to brighten your skin, while Omega-3 from fatty fish such as tuna can reduce inflammation and keep redness at bay. And don’t forget to consume lots of collagen-boosting foods like leafy greens and berries which support collagen synthesis and help to give your skin elasticity.
- Build a Great Skincare Routine
No matter what your age, many types of skin need more than just a splash of water to really keep it looking and feeling great. Now is the time to build up an AM and PM skincare routine, using water-based serums and essences first, and oil-based moisturisers at the end of the routine. You can keep your routine nice and simple, but don’t forget to moisturise! Now is also a good time to get into the habit of getting regular facials which can give your skin an enhanced boost ready for the hot summer season.
- Take Care in the Sun
As we edge closer and closer to summer, the weather is finally starting to perk up, and this means it’s even more important that we’re taking measures to protect our skin from UV rays. Even cooler days can impact the overall look and feel of the skin, so try to get into the habit of wearing a light sun cream every day, even if you think you don’t need it. If you’re often a bit forgetful, try swapping out your regular foundation for one with built-in UV protection to minimise the risk of sun damage and fine lines.
